Proper finite-element discretization for torque computation of cage induction motors

In finite-element analysis of electrical machines, torque is typically computed using a method based on Maxwell's stress or virtual work. The accuracy of these methods is sensitive to the quality of the finite-element mesh in the air-gap region. The effects of the spatial discretization on the computed torque are studied. Power balance of the electrical machine is used as a reference to assess the accuracy of the direct torque computation.
