Shadowing in urban environments with microcellular or peer-to-peer links

This paper revisits the modeling of shadowing in urban microcells, putting particular emphasis on the impact of street canyons. We argue that a categoriztion of links according to dominant propagation effects (line-of-sight, single diffraction, multiple diffraction) more accurately reproduces not only shadowing variance, but also the autocorrelation behaviour. This hypothesis is supported and quantified by ray launching simulations from downtown Los Angeles. A generic model and simulation methodology are also provided.
