Self Healing Certificate-Less Hybrid Encryption (SHCL-HE)

We propose a novel idea of incorporating Self Healing Certificate less Hybrid Encryption (SHCL-HE) scheme over Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). Hybrid Cryptosystem combines the public-key cryptosystems with the efficiency of symmetric key cryptosystems in SHCL-HE. Literature shows the existence of two main approaches in asymmetric cryptography, namely the public-key cryptography and the ID based cryptography. A Certificate Authority (CA) is utilized in public-key cryptography system to issue certificates between users that take care of authenticity. A key generation center (KGC) is utilized in ID based cryptography systems to generate the user's private keys which might lead to key escrow problems because the KGC knows every user's keys. To overcome these drawbacks, Al-riyami and Paterson proposed Certificate less cryptography system in which the Public Keys need not be certified and KGC does not know users' keys. Willy Susilo extended their work to MANET. But still there were inherent drawbacks as the complexity involved in key generation is high hence making it applicable only to smaller networks. Our novel scheme, Self Healing Certificate less Hybrid Encryption utilizes less key generation complexity as well, the self healing characteristic takes care of the dynamic nature of Ad-hoc network. Thus SHCL-HE is applicable to larger networks with less initialization time. Since there is a trade off in going for a simpler key generation technique, further key encapsulation is achieved by using symmetric cryptography, thus making the system hybrid in nature and also provides secured communication in short period. The proposed model is implemented in real-time as a virtual driver that sits between layer 2(Media Access Control) and layer 3(Network) of the standard Open-System Interconnect (OSI) model. It is sometimes referred to as layer 2.5. The virtual driver used in our model is Mesh Connectivity Layer (MCL) which is an open source tool developed by Microsoft Research which has been edited according to our model. Socket programming is used at API (Application Programming Interface) for byte stream encryption using .Net (Dot NET) Framework.
