Expansion of video database capacity by introducing speculative execution technique in parallel environments

This paper discusses a video database, which is effective for a base on a video editing system. Hear-after, we abbreviate "database" to "DB". This paper proposes a methodology in order to expand a video DB capacity. It is not easy to store enough video scenes that will be worth calling "DB" in a single video DB. In order to solve this problem, we compress MPEG-1 (simply called MPEG) data by command gzip, and adopt it as storage data for the DB. In here, we hide or reduce decompression overhead to MPEG data required in order to replay a video scene, by taking advantages of speculative execution technique in parallel environments. A primary evaluation in this paper shows that our proposition has possibility to expand a video DB capacity at a range from 3.4 to 9.5% and enables us to store more video scenes than conventional schemes.
