A higher order FEM-BEM method for the calculation of domain processes in magnetic nano-elements

The Gilbert equation of motion is solved for magnetic nano-elements of arbitrary shape using a hybrid finite element/boundary element method. NiFe elements show small scale domains in the remanent state, if a uniaxial anisotropy parallel to the short axis is assumed. In bars with one pointed end, the formation of the domains starts from the flat ends. Narrow elements with a width smaller than 0.2 /spl mu/m remain in a nearly single domain state.
