OASIS, an extension of Air Force technology to general aviation

Advanced Creations, is developing a totally integrated avionics system that is consistent with the demands and cost constraints presented by general aviation aircraft. The system, OASIS (Onboard Avionics Synergistic Information System) utilizes technologies based on human factors research, two and three dimensional graphics generation capabilities, artificial intelligence, control systems, and real-time, multi-tasking, multi-processing systems garnered from various Air Force advanced cockpit development programs. OASIS, the cockpit system of the future, integrates the key cockpit instruments and aircraft sensors, providing comprehensive situation awareness through revolutionary 2D and 3D displays. The system monitors principal subsystems and aircraft sensors to detect abnormalities, diagnose problems and convey warnings to the pilot with adequate time to take corrective action. The 3D display provides the pilot the ability to "see through" clouds and weather and achieve unprecedented Ground Proximity Warning (GPW). An emergency warning system not only provides notification of emergencies, but defaults to relevant displays and suggests corrective actions or procedures OASIS has. The capabilities for achieving many of the objectives of the NASA funded AGATE (Advanced General Aviation Transport Experiments) program years in advance of program goals. The AGATE goals for improved safety, less stressful flying, and significantly reduced training time can be achieved through the incorporation of OASIS in both an enhanced avionics and training role.
