Performance of spatial diversity for underwater communications

An underwater acoustic communication system based on adaptive spatial diversity and equalization to combat multipath interference is presented. Its performance is demonstrated by using experimental data telemetered in a shallow water, short-range acoustic channel. The results indicate a comparable performance with coherent binary phase-shift keying (BPSK).
