Multimedia education: training for packaging engineers

The normal path into an engineering career is by way of a Bachelor's degree from a university. This differs for electronic packaging: while there are a few college programs specifically for training in microelectronics packaging, most packaging engineers begin in a different engineering field and enter packaging midway into their careers. Thus, packaging engineers find they must expand their knowledge base to become more multidisciplinary. As instruction and training move from the classroom onto the Internet, and just-in-time delivery to the desktop becomes an option, the packaging engineer will benefit significantly from these new trends. "Learning Modules" can be developed with a dual purpose in mind: use in traditional university courses; and delivery to working engineers around the world.
