Modeling & analysis of weld short faults of bar-wound propulsion IPM machine part I: Turn short

The turn-to-turn short due to weld shorts of a bar-wound IPM machine is modeled and analyzed using finite element analysis. A finite element model (FEM) for a fault simulation is constructed based on a FEM of a healthy motor. The fault location and affected windings are chosen based on welds that are physically adjacent. Results are obtained for three operating conditions, including maximum speed and maximum torque. These results are observed in both the time domain and frequency domain.
