Tailoring MIL-STD-464A and MIL-STD-461F requirements for space systems applications

MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STD-461 are the basis for electromagnetic effects requirements for military procurements for all platforms. Tailoring of requirements is essential to that process so that it applies to the special needs of spaceflight. AIAA S-121-2009, “Electromagnetic Compatibility Requirements for Space Equipment and Systems”, was developed during a three year effort by a government/industry committee. This paper describes how MIL-STD-464 and MIL-STD-461 were tailored for space applications.
