Considerations in the design of small motors for automotive applications

Small electric motors are used in automotive applications covering a very wide range of functions as actuators, hydraulic pumps, vacuum pumps, compressors and blowers. A selection of typical applications which would add up to about 12-15 motors on a standard car and over 50 motors on a top of range model are briefly mentioned. The basic design considerations, duty cycles, acoustic noise, EMC, safety, and quality procedures and requirements are briefly discussed.
