Optimum design methods for WPC shipform

Wave-piercing catamaran (WPC) is a efficiency ship form which combined various navigating requirements such as good sea-keeping performance, speeding, stability and rotation. In this paper, based on the catamaran ‘slender ship’ wave making resistance formula, some introduction and discussion are given on how to use the methods of ‘quadratic-mathematical programmer’ and ‘tent function’ to presented the optimum formula, established the calculating programmer with MATLAB engineering software to make optimization of the minimum total resistance WPC ship form, compared with model experimental results, its identified that this method should be used for ship form design of high-speed catamaran and WPC.
