Yb:YLF as active medium in the thin disk laser

Results of the first Yb:LiYF₄ thin disk laser experiments are presented. 5.87 W output power and up to 42% slope efficiency have been obtained under 973 nm pumping using a 30% Yb-doped disk with 200 μm thickness.
