Theoretical study of dielectric relaxation mechanism and its physical basis for nematic liquid crystals

Dielectric data on p-methoxy benzylidine p-butylaniline and para azoxy anisol at different frequencies and temperatures are reanalyzed using unified approaches. Exponent of frequency, activation energy, relaxation time, and cut-off frequencies at different temperatures and frequencies are calculated. It is concluded that the unified approach assuming linearity of response should be preferred over the distribution of relaxation-time mechanism, as the latter approach is arbitrary in nature and does not explain the observed data, the frequency variation of which may have physical basis and may include nonlinearities found in the log /spl theta/t versus log /spl omega/ plots. These nonlinearities may be due to many-body interactions.
