Impact of Sloping Land Conversion Program on off-farm employment

Using a panel data between 1999 and 2006 set of 605 households in Loess Plateau Region, China, and Differences in Differences (DD) method and Matching Method, we evaluate the Program's impact on the off-farm employment. Our empirical study results show that, SLCP has made a significant impact on the off-farm employment since it has been implemented for 7 years. SLCP has significantly increased the probability of shifting the rural labor from on-farm work to off-farm work by 11 percent with DD method, and also a consistent result by at least 17 percent with matching methods.
