Design and experimental analysis on characteristic of the magnetostrictive turning process tool-post

Using the micro displacement sensor, pressure sensor and its magnetostrictive turning tool-post, the tool-post properties are studied according to the different loading values and the current strength. The current values and loading values were adjusted by the control system, and the magnetostrictive quantity was recorded by data acquisition system visa the micro displacement sensor during the test. Experimental results showed that under different loading values, the output displacement of tool-post creases with the growth of excitation current until saturation. Meanwhile, the tool-post's output displacement increased with the increasing of loading value firstly, and then the output displacement of the tool-post decreased under the action of maximum working current, however. The relationship between loading value and magnetostrictive in the maximum working current was determined by the method of curve linear regression. The best working loading value was also obtained. Error analysis indicated that the experimental results agreed with the theoretical analysis well.
