Experimental studies on coke catalyst for cracking of biomass tar model compound

In order to reduce the deposit carbon on the catalyst, improving the catalytic activity of the catalyst during catalytic cracking of biomass tar, on bench-scale catalyst evaluated device (WFS-3015), there did an experimental study on catalytic cracking of tar model compound over a catalyst - coke, undering certain coke particles(0.5∼0.8 mm), cracking temperature(800°C) and gas residence time (7.5s ). The experimental results showed that compared thermal cracking with catalytic cracking using coke as the catalyst, the cracking efficiency of toluene were nearly the same. However, the cracking efficiency of phenol greatly increased from 38.25% by thermal cracking to 97.41% by catalytic cracking. What's more, to toluene and phenol, the deposit carbon efficiency both came down. The XRD analysis revealed that coke before and after cracking reaction were the the same crystal form, which provided a experimental thinking for selective catalytic cracking of tar model compound. Furthermore, the GC-MS analysis illustrated tar model compound after pyrolysis contained a large amount of PAHs.
