Effects of convex platform structure on couplings of strong electromagnetic pulse

The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is utilized to simulate strong electromagnetic pulse coupling into the rectangular cavity with convex platform structure. The effects of the convex platform's different positions, shape and size in the same position on the maximum electric field strength of the cabinet center will be studied. Besides, the effects of the strong electromagnetic pulse's rise time and amplitude on the maximum power density of the cabinet center will be also analyzed. Results show that the convex platform structure can reduce the maximum electric field strength coupled into the cabinet center. Especially, round convex platform added on inside the cabinet is much better. Appropriate size of convex platform selected can increase the shielding effectiveness. In addition, the shorter the rise time is and the more easily the electromagnetic pulse is coupled into the cabinet. The power density coupled into the cabinet varies with the incident electric field values in terms of quadratic curve.
