Hybrid speech coding strategies for the melbourne-nucleus cochlear implant: Preliminary results

The performance of several hybrid coding strategies combining two different coding strategies (Pitch Excited Sampler and Continuous Interleave Sampler) were evaluated in a consonant identification test and a malefemale speaker identification test. The results suggest that the use of CIS stimulation for presenting transient F2 information can improve the identification of unvoiced stop consonants. Also, voice pitch information encoded into only one or two of the active electrodes appeared to be well transmitted.
