Analysis of human gating performance using time frequency analysis

The human hearing process is a complex information extraction mechanism which involves a variety of interacting systems that combine to produce auditory perception. Speech gating experiments provide a controlled technique to permit a better understanding of some basic mechanisms of human speech perception. Using time frequency analysis techniques for improved time and frequency resolution the authors provide a model which produces performance similar to that found in perceptual experiments for humans identifying the six stop consonants of English.
