A solution to the problem of registration of engineering technologists

This paper advocates the creation of a registered engineering technologist. This is based on the fact that engineering technologists are involved in the practice of engineering as defined by law but do not have the full training required to be registered engineers. Other programs which produce registered paraprofessionals are discussed. Support for this is developed in this paper. It is based on two major premises. First, a gap has developed between the registered engineer and the tradesman/engineering support staff. Next, the gap involves the practice of engineering as typically defined by Louisiana Statute RS-37-682. This gap needs to be filled with a registered engineering technologist by virtue of the job requirements and the training received by engineering technologists.
