Broadband network powering issues

Over the last several years, many traditional telephony network providers have implemented broadband networks to provide new services and to address new markets. As powering capacity and reliability are crucial to the success of these new ventures, there have been many technical developments in the design and implementation of powering systems for broadband networks. The following powering options are discussed: low frequency (1 Hz) AC powering; Southern New England Telephone method of combined power/telecommunication cables; 60-90 V AC centralised powering using power nodes; cable TV traditional distributed powering architecture; MSO cable TV operator powering approach; and existing broadband systems.
