High definition video systems for underwater inspection

The advancements in High Definition (HD) video technology over the last 5 years, especially with the standardization of video formats such as 720p, 1080i and 1080p, have had a significant impact on the design of inspection systems. The main advantage of HD video, namely higher video resolution, directly benefits underwater-application requirements. HD is a relatively new technology in the underwater industry, and there are multiple steps required for successful system integration. This paper's aim is to detail and clarify the different aspects to consider when integrating HD video into underwater applications.
