The Resident-Government Interest Conflict Handling Mode of World Nature Heritage Area: A Case Study of Zhangjiajie

Aimed at the problem of resident-government conflict during the course of tourism development in world natural heritage site in China, and within the Attitude-Behavior-Situation analysis frame work, the research explored the major internal and external factors that influence local residents' interest conflict handling style on the base of the conflict handling model of Callanan et al. (2006) and Rahim(2000). The research found that, resident's justice perception of local tourism development and their attitude toward themselves and other stakeholders' interests exert comprehensive influence to their interest conflict handling behavior to government. The higher the residents' justice recognition were, the more cooperative and compromising they could be when handling the interest conflict with the government. The procedure justice and interactional justice positively correlate to residents' cooperative behavior with government, distributive justice positively correlate to residents' compromising behavior with government. Compared with the personal psychological characteristic, residents' justice perception of local tourism development exert greater influence on their conflict handling mode, and residents' competitive behavior are mainly influence by the personal psychology characteristics and one's subjective value judgment.
