The Mechanical Performance of Piezoelectric Fiber Composite Actuators

The piezoelectric fiber composite actuators are new kind of piezoelectric actuators which have high mechanical performance and flexibility. In order to raise the induced strain of piezoelectric fiber composite actuators, two piezoelectric unit's construction equations about longitudinal length extension vibration mode are established. According to the construction equations for piezoelectric actuators, some finite models are established. Then the performance of mechanics is analyzed in detail. The anisotropy is characterized. ANSYS is employed to numerically research the influence of piezoelectric constants on the piezoelectric fiber composite actuators' induced strain. The distribution of induced strain is given by FEM. Several rules are summed. The results show much high induced strain can be obtained by increasing elastic modulus E₁, Poisson's ratio μ₁₂, and decreasing elastic modulus E₃, shear modulus G₁₃, dielectric coefficient ε₁₁ and ε₃₃.
