Dynamic Properties of Disk Brake Based on Thermo-elastic Instability Theory

Based on the thermo-elastic instability (TEI) theory and direct thermal-structural coupling method, the temperature increment and deformation of disk brake during an emergency braking process are analyzed. The simulation results indicate that the disc brake, before running-in, takes 3.35sec to decelerate from the initial speed of 100km/h to 0km/h, with 207°C maximum temperature increment, 8.29m/s² average deceleration, 0.624 braking torque stability coefficient, all of which come up to the GB5763-1998. The fluctuation of braking torque, under the condition of ignoring initial disc-thickness variation (DTV) and installing DTV, is mainly because of the change of contact area caused by TEI.
