Unidirectional low profile ultra-wideband antenna for radar and communication applications

Ultra-wideband systems with multi-octave bandwidths offer many advantages over conventional narrowband systems. For example, they can provide very high resolutions in radar and imaging applications which makes them very attractive for see through wall [1] and ground penetrating radars (GPR) as well as medical imaging. They can also provide very high data rates in communication applications which makes them a very strong candidate for next generation short range high data rate networks. One of the important elements in all UWB radar and communication systems are the antenna elements, which are required to be compact, light weight and to have good radiation characteristics.
