Plastic packaging for military contractors

How does one change the Plastic Encapsulated Microcircuit (PEM) paradigm for a Military contractor? First, one must understand why PEMs should be used, and how they differ from their ceramic counterparts. Next, reliable assembly and mounting techniques must be understood, customer approval for their use must be obtained, and any hidden requirements or risks must be identified. This study demonstrated that some PEMs are suitable for use in a military airborne radar environment. The process established for their evaluation will be revealed so that others can learn from the experiences of Hughes.
