Electric actuation and control system

The mission of the Technology Reinvestment Project (TRP) is to stimulate technology transition to a growing, national industrial capability, which provides the most advanced, affordable military systems and the most competitive commercial products. The TRP strategy defined by the Defense Technology Conversion Council (DTCC) is to: develop technologies which enable new products and processes; deploy existing technology into commercial and military products and processes; and stimulate the integration of military and commercial research and production activities. The Rockwell Consortium Team (RCT) and the Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) is investigating the technical feasibility of, and advancing the technology base for developing an affordable dual use Electric Actuation Control System (EACS) technology, which is needed for both air and ground vehicles. The program consists of an electric stabilator actuation system for military and civilian aircraft and a high performance/high force electrical actuation and control system for ground vehicles. Targeted commercial applications are heavy construction equipment hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and off-highway equipment brake systems. Further development of these technologies into viable industrial and commercial products will mitigate potential risks and mature these technologies for a full more electric technology implementation.
