Future communications study - L-Band CONUSE, requirements, and architecture

• For the past six years, NASA GRC and ITT have conducted a future Air/Ground comunications technology assessment for the FAA • FAA-EUROCONTROL cooperative research Action Plan (AP-17), also known as the Future Communications Study (FCS) • NASA and ITT identified and evaluated candidate technologies for the future communications infrastructure (FCI) to be used in air traffic management (ATM) • Specific, harmonized recommendations for data communications technologies in VHF, C-, L-, and Satellite-Bands, and a set of follow-on research and implementation actions have been endorsed by the FAA, EUROCONTROL, and ICAO
