Telecommuting and consulting engineering

Consulting engineering involves teams sharing information and tasks to create a project. Thus it would seem a suitable area for telecommuting. However, the nature of engineering work creates difficulties with issues related to: payment, team interaction, mentorship, security, legal issues and document control. Consequently it seems that only part-time telecommuting is a viable work strategy for this industry. The paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of telecommuting and the consulting engineering industry in Alberta.
