A performance comparison between Cartesian optical network and a conventional network

A significant demand has been increased in broadband services that needs very fast response time while still demanding high quality of service, which requires large bandwidth. Due to ever-increasing demands, communication in all-optical networks requires novel routing techniques. In this paper, Cartesian Optical Routing technique is presented and a comparison with conventional IP based electronic network has been carried out. Cartesian networks support a novel unicast routing methodology in which a packet's route is determined by the position of the router relative to that of the destination. Our results demonstrated that the Cartesian optical network promises better performance when compared to the conventional network in terms of End-to-End (ETE) delay, throughput, and an amount of traffic sent and received.
