Performance study of a four-phase 8/6 switched reluctance generator using a nonlinear model based on magnetization curves

This paper presents a simulation study on the performance of a four-phase 8/6 switched reluctance generator (SRG) for variable-speed applications using a non-linear model based on the magnetization curves which can be obtained from experimental data or calculated data using finite-element method. The generator performance, including output power, torque ripple and copper losses, is determined in terms of turn-on and turn-off angles for different operating speeds while the DC bus voltage is maintained at a constant value. The results are presented as a family of performance curves that can be used as an accurate design tool for the specific SRG. The results can be also used to predict the performance trends of other types of SRG of similar structure.
