Removal of 17-B-estradiol Pollutants from Contaminated Water by Molecularly Imprinted Polymers

A highly selectively synthetic molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) sorbent for 17-B-estradiol was prepared using a non-covalent imprinting technique. The MIP polymers were synthesized in ethanol by using 17-B-estradiol as the template, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as the functional monomer, HCl as catalyst. When compared with the nonimprinted polymer (NIP), the MIP displayed outstanding affinity and adsorption efficiency. Test results showed that the MIP polymer exhibited significant binding affinity toward the selected template through on-line solid-phase coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (SPE-HPLC), suggesting that the MIP polymer may be feasibility for removing 17-B-estradiol compounds from contaminated water.
