Bit error rate reduction of TCM systems using linear scramblers

It is shown that the use of Gray scramblers and Gray mapped signal sets are equivalent. A search is performed for better scramblers, including a search for scramblers with memory. Memoryless scramblers are found to give best performance and an explanation for this is given.
