Digital two dimensional synthesis and measurement of sea wave spectra using coastal UHF radar

Describes a spectral approach for synthesis and analysis of radar image of the sea surface at the output of a radar receiver. The sea surface is presented as a field with an analytical spectrum, depending on the wind speed and direction. A radar sea spectrum is synthesized using the radar impulse response and the convolution theorem. From this spectra a radar sea image is generated using an inverse Fourier transform. Another simulation approach is presented as well. A 2D recursive digital filter of second order is used with given statistical properties. A /spl delta/-field is convolved with this filter for sea image simulation. Simulated images are presented in the first and in the second case. Experimental raw radar sea images are formed by coastal radar in Varna Bay, Black Sea. A comparison is made between estimated spectra of raw radar images and the synthesized images.
