A broadcaster's view of radio receivers of the future

Improvements to radio broadcasting have stemmed largely from technological developments in other fields that have been applied to broadcasting by receiver manufactures and broadcast authorities alike. Technological developments, from thermionic valves in the early days to transistors and integrated circuits at the present time, together with improvements to materials such as magnets for loudspeakers and ferrites for aerials, and a host of others, have led to cheaper and better receivers. Innovation on the part of broadcasting authorities, from instant-playback recorders in the early days to p.c.m. and stereophony at the present time, have led to better entertainment in the home. By being aware of technological developments, and by looking always for new facilities that they could provide, broadcasters can adapt to changing conditions and provide the best possible service for their listeners in the future
