Reliability of local control panel of rotating machines

Most electronic equipment failures are mechanical in nature. Reliability of electronic boards and devices of local control panel installed on rotating machine packages is an important issue and has considerable impact on plant safety and reliability. Analytical modeling of plate (as general model of electronic circuit board or component of electronic device) in a complex dynamic environment is presented. This analytical technique describes how dynamic behavior of plate changed in interaction with system dynamic characteristics and it can lead to more possibilities of resonance and damage. It is in agreement with experimental results which show electronic circuit board failure in machine local control panel under dynamic loading considerably less than values required to affect the plate when plate itself, lonely, is under vibration test. It is recommended to install local control panel near machine on separate skid, if not possible (installation on machine skid) careful modeling and dynamic reviews are necessary to investigate resonance and dynamic overloading. Recommendations regarding fastening, ribs, coating, panels, boards and device installation are also addressed.
