Thermally stimulated current study of crystalline benzene derivatives

Thermally stimulated depolarization current (TSDC) and thermally stimulated polarization current (TSPC) of crystalline hexasubstituted halomethylbenzenes-pentachloronitrobenzene, pentachloroaniline, pentachlorotoluene, tetrachloro-m-xylene, pentabromotoluene, tetrachloro-o-benzene and bromopentamethylbenzene-was measured. The first five derivatives showed a TSDC peak and the corresponding TSPC peak, respectively obeying dipolar relaxation processes. However, the rest compounds showed a characteristic TSDC peak and the corresponding TSPC peak followed by more than one peak in the high temperature range of the main peak. The high temperature peaks are, presumably, due to benzene ring deformation induced by the mutual motion of plural adjacent methyl groups.
