Authentication and encryption in a mobile communication system

A prototype communications system with security features based on the Future Public Land Mobile Telecommunications Systems (FPLMTS) network architecture is described. User authentication and communication security in radio links between many closed user groups (CUGs), public and private, are discussed. A layered structure of key management and key distribution protocols are presented.
