Estimation of aperture response functions from measurements using a non-ideal detector

To verify design predictions or to assess construction uniformity, it is often desirable to measure the intrinsic response function of a collimator. Generally, measurements are performed with the collimator in place over the non-ideal detector (e.g., an Anger camera) and therefore represent combined collimator and detector responses. A maximum likelihood method using generalized Gaussian penalties has been developed for removing the blurring effect of the intrinsic detector resolution from combined reponse measurements. Resulting restorations of the intrinsic collimator responses for SPRINT II slice collimators show marked improvements over simpler linear deconvolution approaches.
