Advanced data services for wireless communication networks

Standards are being developed by the cellular industry to support vehicular communication networks. The cellular digital packet data (CDPD) standard has been developed for analog cellular systems (AMPS) by a consortium of cellular carriers. Data standards for CDMA cellular systems are being developed by the CDMA Development Group. Both CDPD and CDMA-based cellular data standards provide the necessary communication technology to support vehicular communication networks. The paper provides a summary of the standards being developed in the area of wireless data communication networks.
