A study on the effective interconnection method between base stations and selector bank subsystem in CDMA cellular voice/data integrated networks

In the CDMA cellular land network (CCLN), all base stations are connected with the selector bank subsystem (SBS). This CCLN can be designed based on the E1/T1 physical line and HDLC protocol with fixed or variable length, considering only the case of voice traffic. However, since not only voice but also data traffic has to be supported in the code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular system, it is necessary to use the physical line efficiently to increase bandwidth efficiency and transmission speed. Considering these requirements, the conventional method has some problems in that the bandwidth is wasted because each base station transceiver subsystem (BTS) has its own private line. In this paper, we consider the method using distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) metropolitan area network (MAN) as a CDMA interconnect subsystem (CIS), and analyze the performances of the conventional and proposed methods constructing CIS in the voice/data integrated environment by computer simulation. According to the simulation results, it turns out that the performance of the methodology using the DQDB MAN is better than those of the conventional method in view of delay and throughput characteristics, in both the uniform and nonuniform traffic distribution environment.
