System partitioning in a cellular network

As the demand for cellular service increases, service providers deploy multiple mobile switching centers (MSCs) in order to handle the increased traffic. In such a scenario, to determine the maximum benefit from the network the inter-MSC boundaries must be defined to minimize the networking overheads. In this article we provide an optimization algorithm for defining these boundaries. Our experiments show that partitions generated using our algorithm have up to 30% more call carrying capacity than the ones generated by other means.
