The proportional hazards model in reliability

The regression model for survival analysis introduced by D.R. Cox (1972) was developed with applications to industrial reliability studies and medical studies in mind. While this model has had a significant impact on the biomedical field, it has received little attention in the reliability literature. An overview is presented of the Cox model (often referred to as the proportional hazards model), and the use of this model in several typical and important reliability applications is discussed. Possible extensions to the theory that arise out of these reliability applications are examined.<>
