Effect of Pt Doping on the Structure, Magnetic, and Magneto-Optical Properties of Ordered FeRh-Pt Thin Films

The effect of Pt doping on the structure, magnetic and magneto-optical properties of FeRh_100-XPt_X thin films with 0 les X les 25 was investigated in present paper. Ordered alpha' FeRh phase is formed in the thin films with X up to 15 and ordered L1 ₀ FePt phase shows up when X is larger than 10. The first-order magnetic phase transition occurs when X is less than 15. The transition temperature increases with increasing Pt content while the Curie temperature decreases with increasing Pt content in the samples. The effect of external magnetic field shows that an external applied magnetic field will stabilize the ferromagnetic phase and consequently decrease the transition temperature. But the effect of external applied magnetic field on the AFM/FM phase transition is restrained by the addition of Pt. In addition, a (negative) maximum peak and a small shoulder peak were observed at photon energy of around 3.8 eV and 4.7 eV, respectively, in the polar magneto-optical Kerr spectra.
