User-configurable ASIC system design

The need for user configurability in system design, i.e. the ability to modify system functionality "in-the-field", is driven by a number of factors. The ability to "optimize" system performance within varying environments, to change how a piece of equipment interfaces with peripherals, or to modify a system's code are just a few of the factors driving the search for the best way to supply configurability to the system user. pFSB technology, based on ViaLink antifuse structures, enables ASIC-based systems with such a user-configurable capability. It can be used to create PROM-like structures, that are electrically and visually secure, embedded within an ASIC chip. Compatibility with ASIC processing, design libraries and tools is maintained.
