Implantable artificial heart system and new actuator control by power electronic system

An implantable artificial heart system with a DC-DC converter using a high-frequency resonant inverter as the method of energy transmission from the outside of the body to the interior of the body is presented. An external battery, a high-frequency transformer, and a pulse-width modulation (PWM) gate driver are outside the body. The secondary winding of the high-frequency transformer, a rectifier smoothing circuit, an output voltage regulation circuit, and an internal battery are inside the body. To show the control method of the implantable artificial heart system, the circulatory model is presented. The circulatory model, a 16-b computer with information on carbon dioxide density in the blood, is evaluated using a mock circulatory system. The results obtained from the mock circulatory system and an experiment with carbon dioxide inhalation performed on six test subjects agree.<>
