3D visualization and morphosynthesis using volume slicing

A 3D volume may be considered as a stack of 2D transverse layers. The layer manufacturing technique, and especially stereolithography, is a new technology for creating 3D models. We use a similar process to store data in 3D optical memories. It works as reverse computerized axial tomography (CAT) by constructing a volume slice by slice. To read out the information, we describe a method well known in CAT and very adapted to parallel optical processing. The method applies to morphosynthesis from data preprocessed by CAO and to 3D visualization of objects, or concepts, which are not visible in the real world.
