Quantum Operations based on Sum Frequency Generation: from IR light detection to quantum interfaces

We report on quantum communication experiments where the process of Sum Frequency Generation is employed to either facilitate the detection of IR light single photons, or to guarantee the preservation of the coherence of quantum states when the aim is to map(transfer) those states between photonic and atomic carriers.
